Overview
Devin Desktop is the AI-first code editor previously sold as Windsurf, a product that grew out of Codeium. Cognition, the maker of the Devin coding agent, acquired Windsurf in July 2025 and renamed the editor Devin Desktop on June 2, 2026. Existing Windsurf users kept their plans, settings and extensions through an automatic update. The editor now centres on an Agent Command Center, a Kanban-style board for tracking local and cloud agents.
Key features
- Full code editor compatible with Windsurf and VS Code extensions and keybindings
- Agent Command Center for managing local and cloud agents on one board
- Devin Local, the default local agent that replaced Cascade
- Support for the Agent Client Protocol, so agents such as Codex or Claude Agent can run inside the editor
- Spaces for sharing context between agents, plus unlimited Tab completions and inline edits on the free plan
Who it’s for
Developers who want an AI-native editor, and teams that want to coordinate several coding agents, locally and in the cloud, from one place.
Pricing model
Free plan with a light agent quota; paid plans unlock higher usage and more models. Prices and limits change often, so always confirm on the official website.
Things to consider
- Older guides and tutorials still refer to Windsurf and Cascade; windsurf.com now redirects to devin.ai.
- Review agent-written changes before merging them.
- Agent usage draws on a quota, so heavy use can require a higher plan.
