Google announced Gemini 4 Argon on 30 September 2026, first for a group of trusted cyber defenders, and on 13 October made it available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the Gemini app, according to Google’s blog. Around that model, the Gemini app now offers a tasks mode, connections to more than 40 outside apps and a coding interface on the Mac. This review looks at what Google documents today and who gets the most value from each plan.

What it is

Gemini is Google’s AI assistant, available on the web and on mobile, and built into Google’s own products: Gmail, Docs, Chrome, Search and Android. The same family of models is sold to developers through Google AI Studio and the Gemini platform, and to companies through Gemini Enterprise. Consumers reach the more capable models by subscribing to one of the Google AI plans, which also bundle cloud storage and other Google services.

Key features

  • Models. Google’s plans page lists Flash-Lite on the free tier, Flash on AI Plus, and Gemini 4 Argon, Pro and Flash on AI Pro and AI Ultra. Google describes Argon as a frontier model for coding, enterprise knowledge work and cyber defence, and says it gives more direct answers with fewer hedges and reports progress more often on long jobs. Those are vendor claims.
  • Tasks. With Argon, a toggle in the chat window switches between chatting and assigning tasks. Google says tasks can keep running while you are away from your computer, across Google apps and others.
  • Connected apps. Gemini connects to more than 40 apps, including Instacart, OpenTable, Adobe and Shopify, according to the availability announcement.
  • Research and creation tools. Deep Research, Gemini Live voice conversations, Canvas, Gems (custom assistants) and image generation and editing are listed on every plan, including the free one. Gemini Notebook and its Audio Overviews get higher limits on paid tiers.
  • Video and media. Paid plans add video generation and credits for Google Flow, Google’s creative tool: 200 credits on AI Plus, 1,000 on AI Pro and 10,000 or 25,000 on AI Ultra.
  • Gemini in Google apps. Paid plans bring Gemini into Gmail and, from AI Pro, Docs. AI Pro also lists Chrome auto browse and a Daily Brief.
  • Coding. AI Pro and Ultra include higher limits for Jules and Google Antigravity, Google’s coding agents. Google says Antigravity’s agentic coding interface is now inside the Gemini macOS app.

Pricing

At the time of writing (October 2026), Google’s US plans page lists:

Plan Price Highlights
Free $0 Flash-Lite, Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas, Gems, limited Flow, 15 GB storage
Google AI Plus $4.99/month 2x Free limits, Flash, video generation, Gemini in Gmail, 200 Flow credits, 400 GB storage
Google AI Pro $19.99/month 4x Free limits, Gemini 4 Argon, Gemini in Gmail and Docs, 1,000 Flow credits, YouTube Premium Lite, 5 TB storage
Google AI Ultra From $99.99/month, or $199.99/month 5x or 20x AI Pro limits, 10,000 or 25,000 Flow credits, Project Genie, YouTube Premium, 20 TB+ storage
Gemini Enterprise Business From $21/seat/month Up to 300 seats, connectors, no-code workflow builder
Gemini Enterprise Standard/Plus From $30/seat/month Unlimited seats, custom agents, advanced security controls

Google says Gemini app limits reset every five hours until a weekly limit is reached, and that users can buy AI credits to extend them. For developers, Google lists an introductory Gemini 4 Argon API price of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, rising to $4 and $20 once the introductory period ends.

Strengths

Integration is Gemini’s biggest advantage. For anyone who already uses Gmail, Docs and Android, an assistant that works inside those apps removes a lot of copying and pasting. No rival can match that reach into Google’s own services.

The bundles are generous. AI Pro costs about the same as competing standard plans but adds 5 TB of storage and YouTube Premium Lite, so households already paying Google for storage may find the AI almost comes along for free.

The free tier is broad in features. Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas and Gems are all available without paying, which makes it easy to try the workflow before upgrading. Our guide on how to compare ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini suggests testing each assistant on your own tasks before choosing.

Limitations

The plan matrix is crowded. Five consumer and business tiers, two Ultra price points, Flow credits and optional AI credits all need reading to understand. Google also notes that features vary by plan, platform and country, so the exact offer depends on where you live.

The free tier uses Flash-Lite, Google’s smallest listed model. Free users get the tools but not the strongest reasoning, and Gemini 4 Argon requires at least AI Pro.

Usage caps apply at every level. The rolling five-hour limits and weekly cap mean heavy users may need Ultra or extra credits. Pro and Ultra also require users to be 18 or older with a personal Google account.

Connecting an assistant to email, documents and outside shopping or booking apps gives it a lot of access. Users should review which apps are connected and think about what tasks run unattended; our explainer on prompt injection and LLM security explains why that matters.

Who it’s for

  • Google Workspace and Android users who want AI inside Gmail, Docs and Chrome.
  • Households already paying for Google storage who can fold AI into the same bill.
  • Creators who want image and video generation alongside a chat assistant.
  • Developers interested in Antigravity and the Gemini API.

Alternatives

  • ChatGPT — broad consumer feature set and a large ecosystem of custom assistants.
  • Claude — strong for long writing and coding, with Claude Code on its Pro plan.
  • Perplexity — a search-first assistant focused on cited answers.

Verdict

Google Gemini earns 4.5 out of 5. Its documented feature set is among the broadest of any assistant, Gemini 4 Argon arrives on a mainstream $19.99 plan, and integration with Google’s apps is unmatched. The storage and media bundles make AI Pro strong value for people already in Google’s ecosystem. We hold back half a point because the free tier relies on a smaller model, usage caps apply on every plan, and the growing number of tiers, credits and country differences makes the offer harder to understand than it should be.
