Otter.ai was one of the first AI transcription services to reach a mass audience, and it now positions itself as an “AI Meeting Agent” that records, summarizes and answers questions about your meetings. The category has become crowded — Zoom, Microsoft, Google and Notion all bundle their own note-takers — so this review asks what Otter’s official pages show it still offers on its own.
What it is
Otter.ai is a meeting transcription and note-taking service. Its agent can join Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet calls automatically from your Google Calendar, transcribe them live with speaker identification, and produce summaries with decisions, action items and next steps. You can also record without a bot from the desktop app, or import recordings. See our Otter.ai directory entry for a quick summary.
Key features
- AI Meeting Agent. Joins scheduled meetings, transcribes them and writes summaries with action items.
- Bot-free recording. A desktop app option records meetings without adding a visible participant.
- AI Chat. Ask questions within a single meeting or across your whole meeting history, and draft follow-ups, reports and other content from what was said.
- Templates and workflows. Standard and custom AI meeting templates, plus AI workflows that become more advanced on higher tiers.
- Integrations. Otter lists Slack, Zoom, Salesforce, HubSpot, Jira, Notion, Asana, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Dropbox, Glean and Claude.
- MCP server. Otter’s Model Context Protocol server lets ChatGPT, Claude and other AI assistants access your meeting knowledge — useful if you already do most work in a general assistant.
- Enterprise extras. An API and webhooks and a dedicated Sales Notetaker on the Enterprise plan.
- Languages. Otter’s help center lists six transcription languages — English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Chinese (Simplified), with German and Chinese in beta. It transcribes one language per conversation, with an automatic French-to-English switch as the exception.
Pricing
At the time of writing (October 2026), Otter’s official pricing page lists (US dollars, per user):
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing (per month) | Transcription | Max conversation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | Free | Free | 300 min/month | 30 minutes |
| Pro | $16.99 | $8.33 | 1,200 min/month | 90 minutes |
| Business | $30 | $19.99 | Unlimited meetings; 6,000 min of imports | 4 hours |
| Enterprise | Contact sales | Contact sales | Unlimited meetings; 6,000 min of imports | 4 hours |
AI Chat allowances listed on the pricing page are 20 queries per user on Basic (3 per conversation), 50 on Pro and 200 on Business and Enterprise. The page also shows regional promotional prices that apply only in some countries.
Strengths
Otter’s agent is mature and broadly compatible. Automatic joining across the three major video platforms, driven by your calendar, removes the most tedious part of note-taking. For teams that mix Zoom, Teams and Meet depending on the client, a single cross-platform note-taker is easier than three built-in ones.
The integrations are well chosen for sales and project teams. Pushing summaries and action items into Salesforce, HubSpot, Jira or Notion is what turns a transcript into useful work, and the MCP server is a forward-looking addition: it lets people query meeting history from the assistant they already use rather than learning another chat interface.
Annual pricing for Pro is competitive. At $8.33 a month billed annually, Pro gives 1,200 minutes and 90-minute meetings, which covers many individual professionals.
Limitations
The cheaper tiers are tightly capped. A 30-minute limit per conversation on Basic cuts off many ordinary meetings, and 90 minutes on Pro can still be too short for workshops or long interviews.
AI Chat quotas are low. Twenty queries on the free plan and fifty on Pro are small allowances for a feature Otter places at the centre of its product, particularly for anyone searching across months of meetings.
Language support is narrow. Six transcription languages — two in beta — and one language per conversation make Otter a poor fit for multilingual teams compared with services built on newer multilingual speech models.
Privacy and consent matter. Automatic meeting bots can record people who did not expect it, and laws on recording consent vary by country and state. Our explainer on AI meeting note-takers and privacy covers what to check before switching auto-join on.
Who it’s for
- English-speaking teams working across Zoom, Teams and Meet.
- Sales and customer teams that want summaries pushed into a CRM.
- Individuals with moderate meeting loads, on annual Pro billing.
- Assistant power users who want to query meetings via MCP from ChatGPT or Claude.
Alternatives
- Fireflies.ai — a competing meeting assistant with broad integrations.
- Notion AI — bot-free meeting notes inside a team workspace (Business plan).
- Microsoft 365 Copilot — built-in meeting recap for organizations on Teams.

Verdict
Otter.ai earns 3.5 out of 5. Its documented meeting agent, calendar-driven auto-join, CRM and project-tool integrations and new MCP server make it a solid, mature choice, and Pro is good value on annual billing. We mark it down for tight conversation caps and AI Chat quotas on the cheaper plans, limited language support, and growing competition from note-takers bundled into tools many teams already pay for.
