When to use it

Use this prompt when you contact potential customers who do not know you yet: a founder testing a new market, a consultant finding first clients or a sales team building a new segment. It works best for small, targeted lists where you have a real reason to contact each person, not for mass mailing.

How to customize it

  • [WHY I AM CONTACTING THIS PERSON] is the heart of a good cold email. A real, specific trigger makes the message relevant; without one, the email reads as spam.
  • [PROOF] must be true and shareable. A concrete result is more persuasive than adjectives.
  • [MY ASK] should be small. Asking for a short call or permission to send material lowers the effort of saying yes.
  • [TONE] helps the emails sound like you. Paste one of your own emails as an example if you want a closer match.

Why it works

Cold emails get ignored when they are long, generic or pushy. This prompt sets hard limits on length and on the number of asks, and requires each follow-up to add something new instead of “just checking in”. The final email makes declining easy, which often gets more replies than further pressure.

The rules against invented details protect your reputation. Models can produce confident personalization that is simply made up, a form of hallucination, and one wrong fact about a prospect’s company ends the conversation. The [CHECK] markers show exactly what you must verify.

Tips and variations

  • Send to a small batch first, read the replies and adjust before scaling.
  • Follow the email and privacy rules in your country, such as consent and opt-out requirements, and honour every unsubscribe request.
  • Ask for a LinkedIn connection note under 300 characters based on Email 1.
  • Test two subject lines with our ad copy variants for A/B testing prompt.
  • Prepare the call itself with our discovery call question plan.
  • Track replies, not only opens. A short, honest email that gets a polite no is still useful, because it tells you whether the problem, the trigger or the target role needs to change before you write to more people.
